The topic of horoscopes is important to me because I have always had a strange relationship with horoscopes. I've never personally believed in them, nor have I thought that they should play a role in relationships. On the contrary, I've found myself gravitating toward looking at what my daily horoscopes says or "who I'm compatible with". This dichotomy has always been in the back of my mind; this makes me wonder, do I really believe in horoscopes? Many people in society have used horoscopes as a way of comparing themselves with other, mainly in relationships. Nonetheless, the characteristics that coincide with each zodiac sign are vague and can relate to almost any person. Some individuals will go to extremes and use zodiacs as a means to justify actions and decisions.
I believe that our news report was an effective way to address the issue because it provides a different way to look at an issue that isn't commonly spoken about. The dramatic and funny trailer and creates a new perspective in the audience. Our news report awakens the audience to a topic that they may not have seen as an issue. In this project, I was an actor (live and in video), I edited the group paper, and was a writer for the in-class script.
I really enjoyed the use of exaggeration in your video where the daughter killed her mother because she didn't approve of her relationship. It's funny to see how horoscopes can influence one so deeply to go to such extremes. Your group shined in using humor to captivate the audience and keep them interested and you also did a great job talking and acting like a talk show host.
ReplyDeleteYour groups use of farse to take an ordinary situation and showcase its flaws, demonstrating how ridiculously people justify the way we act. The idea of a movie trailer is vey original and provided a different perspective on the project. The humor and acting was great :)

I always knew about the stereotypes that horoscopes had, but due to the exaggeration that was present during the video, it made it a lot funnier. I also enjoyed the parents reaction to the horoscopes of their child's significant other.

I also liked how your group portrayed the clip as a trailer, and for the live you interviewed Mia as one of the actors and you guys talked about how it's a serious topic in today's society. Overall, your presentation was awesome, you and your group did a great job!
ReplyDeleteAs Sarita, Janet, and Ada previously stated the use of exaggeration throughout the presentation was comedic and poked fun at the various stereotypes of horoscopes. I personally enjoyed the scene with the coffee order and how a very simple exchange between two customers ended up beginning a love story.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the use of Invective on horoscopes proved your groups message when a certain sign was 'trash talking' another zodiac sign. Also, Your video looked like it could be an actual trailer to a movie.
